We are proud to acknowledge you that SK Jugra won for the third place in
the Action Song Competition, Kuala Langat District. The competition was held on
the 5th April 2012 at SK Methodist with 18 participants of schools from
all over Kuala Langat. The first place went to SK Bunbum , the school that won
the competition for three times in a row. With colourful costumes and
coordinated steps, the school had succeeded to grab the judges’ attention to be
awarded as the victor for this competition. Second place went to SK Sungai Lang
which was also the same second place winner as last year. Perhaps we can beat
both of them next year!
The experience
As one of the trainers for this competition together with
Miss Izyan Izzaty, I was genuinely proud of my students. We practiced for
almost a month, came to school on holidays, skipped a lot of classes and
finally our hard work had paid off.
Judging from the
length of the lyrics itself, our school I believe had quite a long one as the
song was about money problems. I was amazed by the students who were able to
memorize the lyrics in less than a week even though a lot of changes were made
here and there. The most important area that we emphasized was the
pronunciation and delivery of the song. The students had to enunciate, sound
and pronounce the words correctly while singing the song. Since 15 marks were
allocated for the theme, we decided to choose ‘money trouble’ as the theme for
our song. We thought the theme was fresh, relevant, current and appropriate for
children as they can learn about money in general.
What to improve?
Pronunciation is always the area that needs to be improved
as it is the main objective of the competition; to enable students to develop
their English pronunciation. Besides, after a post mortem discussion was
conducted, we came to the decision that the steps need to be more synchronized
and the costumes have to be more fancy and extravagant.
